Pregnanediol glucuronide, or PdG as it is more commonly known, is a urine metabolite of progesterone. After progesterone circulates through the bloodstream, it is metabolised by the kidneys and expelled from the body in urine. PdG levels in urine correlate to progesterone blood levels. When levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) rise, it triggers the start of ovulation, and the most fertile period of the menstrual cycle occurs. Tracking the surge in LH levels can help people to plan intercourse and increase the changes of becoming pregnant.

Proov uses a patented testing method to track PdG, a marker of progesterone that is detectable in urine and indicates high-quality ovulation when elevated. It’s a key piece of the fertility puzzle not fully revealed by BBT (basal body temperature) and blood tests. High-quality ovulation increases the chance of a successful pregnancy. A clinical study* showed that elevated PdG on specific days after suspected ovulation (during the implantation window) was associated with 92% chance of successful pregnancy, compared to only 19% chance in those with lower PdG levels.
